help me with signature...

I've just downloaded GIMP, and i need help with it...
1. Where can i change language?
2. I know i should save in GIF format so my picture gets transparent, but there are problems when i try saving in GIF! so, can anyone move the white area, and help me continue making my signature...?

btw use the png format...
i suggest only to use gif format when you have a animation because it change the color from RPG to indexed and i looses quality
